Syring, JoAnn P. (Handrick) (22 DEC 1926 - 1 APR 2016)

JoAnn P. (Handrick) Syring passed to her heavenly home on Friday, April 1, 2016. Her loving husband of nearly 70 years preceded her by four weeks.

JoAnn was born to Louis and Rose (Kamenick) Handrick in Stratford on Dec. 22, 1926. She was the third oldest of ten children. JoAnn attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and was a 1944 graduate of Stratford High School. She then moved to Wausau, working first in an office and then at JC Penney. JoAnn married Bob Syring on Sept. 4, 1946. They worked together on a farm near Stratford and moved to Madison in 1965.

She worked at JC Penney from 1965 until retiring in 1988. Her favorite job was a homemaker, taking excellent care of her husband and four children. She was a woman of strong faith, with a kind and gentle heart. She was a very humble woman who always put everyone else first.

JoAnn leaves behind many who love her including a daughter, Diane (Harlan) of Cornell; son, Gary (Cheryl) of Stoughton; daughter-in-law, Mary Free of Madison; grandchildren, Rob (Em), Michael Endres and Katie Free, all of Madison, Will (Leslie) of Chicago and Emily (Derek) of Evansville; great-grandchildren, Mark and Ember of Madison and Bryanna of Anchorage. JoAnn’s brother, Ray (Maxine) Handrick of Burlington, as well as in-laws and friends, also survive her.

Meeting JoAnn at heaven’s gate were her husband, Bob; sons, Bobby and Jeff; grandson, Joey; parents; sisters, Adelaide, Winnie, Donna, Carol and Mary; brothers, Vernon, Wienand and Pat; and many other friends and relatives.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 5313 Flad Avenue, Madison, with visitation held from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church.
