Gosse, Bernice "Toots" (29 SEP 1924 – 13 AUG 2016)
Bernice "Toots" (Ackerman) Gosse, age 91, of Abbotsford, passed away on August
13, 2016, at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.
Bernice was born on September 29, 1924, in Owen, the daughter of Archie and
Kella (Gilbertson) Ackerman. She attended Park Elementary School in the town of
Hoard and then attended Owen High School. On April 8, 1944, she married Victor
Gosse in Owen. They lived in rural Curtiss and raised two children before moving
to Dorchester. Bernice later moved to Abbotsford and resided at the Green Vista
Apartments.
Victor and Bernice operated Vic and Toot's Bar in rural Curtiss. Later, Bernice
worked at Marge's Flowers and the Continental Manor in Abbotsford, and she then
worked at and retired from the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.
Bernice is survived by her son, Ronald (Elaine) Gosse of Abbotsford; her sister,
Janet "Putzel" Stecker of Ashland; six grandchildren, Dawn Gosse of Pearland,
Texas, Dana (Andrew) Ferraro of Pearland, Texas, Todd (Lisa) Cerven of Owen,
Melissa (Darrell) Cook of Wausau, Jason Cerven of Thorp, and Laura Cerven
(fiancé Justin Thompson) of Chippewa Falls; six great-grandchildren, Caden,
Ellie, and Brady Ferraro, Eric and Craig Cerven, and Parker Cook.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Victor, in February
of 2001; her daughter, Janice Kay Cerven in December of 2013; her son-in-law,
Ronald Cerven; and her sister, Betty Gayken (Smith).
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 18, at the
Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. Family and friends are welcome at 1:00
p.m. with a service following at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held at St. Mary's
Catholic Cemetery, in the Town of Holway, after the service.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring staff at the
Clark County Health Center for the kindness and compassion during the past two
years.
