Dassow, Larry Otto John (23 APR 1932 - 16 AUG 2016*)

Larry Otto John Dassow was born on April 23, 1932, to Bernard and Elaine Dassow in their home in Perkinstown, Wisconsin. The oldest son in a family of seven boys, Larry and his brothers grew up on the family farm in Medford.

After graduating from high school, he went to the University of Wisconsin in Madison and studied Agricultural Education.

There he met Annamae Kohn, who had grown up in Rib Lake, Wis. They married directly after graduation and Larry joined the Air Force and became a pilot. After his service, he continued to go to school and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering, as well as a Masters in Electrical Engineering and an MBA.

Larry and Ann had three children, Mary, Kay and Paul. They lived in Red Bank, New Jersey, for five years where Larry worked for Bell Labs. In 1965 they moved to Sunnyvale, CA, and Larry worked for Hewlett-Packard. In 1976, he took a transfer to the HP location in Ft. Collins, CO, where he finished over 30 years with HP; the family resided in Loveland.

Larry was a city councilman in Loveland from 1996-2000. In lieu of running for another term, he chose to step down in order to care for Ann during the last ten years of her life as she suffered from a variety of health issues. Ann passed away in December of 2006 after over 50 years of marriage. His servant heart was then put to use driving for SAINT and most recently, also delivering Meals on Wheels.

Larry loved the Lord Jesus Christ and he and his family were always very involved in their church life. He even helped start the Loveland congregation, Prince of Peace Lutheran. Larry was a hard-worker, always offering to help anyone in need. He had a ready smile and was interested in others more than himself. Those who knew him could see the presence of the Lord in him; he epitomized the fruits of the Spirit: ‘love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.’

In 2006 Larry met Claudette Cherniss, and in 2010 they were married at Prince of Peace. They have since transitioned to Mt. Olive Lutheran, where his service will be held.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Claudette, his three children, Mary Mitchell of Tucson, AZ, Kay King of Seaside, OR, and Paul Dassow of Chattanooga, TN. Also his brothers Harvey, Duane, Everett and Delmar Dassow of Wisconsin and Garry Dassow of Kansas. In addition, he had eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his first wife, Annamae, and his brother Eugene Dassow.

Funeral services for Larry will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey with Rev. Randall Jeppesen officiating. Burial will be at

Lakeview Cemetery, Rib Lake following the funeral luncheon.

Larry was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
