Virnig, Loren C. (19 September 1938 - 16 August 2016) With Flag
Loren C. Virnig, 77, Marshfield died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016 at his
home.
Loren was born Sept. 19, 1938, in Medford to Adrian and Rose (Kellnhofer) Virnig
and as a 1956 graduate of Granton High School. He was a veteran of the United
States Army, serving in the 32nd Division 128th Infantry from October 1961 until
his honorable discharge in February 1965.
He had owned his own gas and fuel business in Granton and later owned and
operated his own semi for a time. He then became employed in the maintenance
department at St. Joseph’s Hospital for over 30 years until his retirement.
Loren loved to tinker and took great pride in fixing things, no matter how big
or small.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; and children: Ann Marie Virnig, Daniel
(Carrie) Virnig, Constance Virnig, and Renee (Greg) Virnig. He is also survived
by a sister, Kathryn Reigel; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law’ numerous nieces
and nephews; and a special nephew and caretaker, Patrick. He is further survived
by Poppy’s girls and grandchildren by heart.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers: Denis and Roman Virnig.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26,
2016, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Samuel Martin
officiating. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, where
military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54. The visitation
will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Rembs Funeral
Home.
