Schneider, Roberta Ann (Brehm) (4 JUN 1932 - 16 JUN 2016)
Roberta Ann Schneider, 84, formerly of Edgar, died peacefully on Thursday, June
16, at Bethany Riverside Nursing Home in La Crosse.
She was born on June 4, 1932, on her family’s farm near Colby, Wis., the third
of Otto and Marjorie Brehm’s five children.
She attended a one-room country school through the eighth grade and graduated
from Colby High School in 1950. On June 9, 1951, she married Walter John
Schneider in Colby. They lived in Edgar for 48 years, and raised their five
children. Walter died in 2002.
Roberta was a very sweet, caring and loving person who took exceptional care of
her family. She was a great homemaker, and an excellent cook, baker and canner.
She enjoyed gardening, playing cards and Yahtzee, traveling with her husband
and, especially, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was so
proud of her family—it was the most important thing in her life.
Roberta is survived by five children, Gail Schneider of La Crosse, Michael
(Cindy) Schneider of Ellison Bay, Philip Schneider (Polly Deardorf) of Elkhorn,
Kathryn (Kevin) Gerstenberger of Onalaska and Mark (Catherine) Schneider of
Chagrin Falls, Ohio. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Katherine and
Jeffrey Schneider, Erik and Gabe Schneider, Andy, Aaron (Amanda), Avery and
Abigail Gerstenberger, Amy (Mark) Knapmiller and Matthew, Anna, Emilia and Rita
Schneider; two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Ellie Jo Knapmiller; two sisters,
Iris Bandt and Ilene Phillips; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister,
Shirley Foster; and her brother, David Brehm.
A funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, at the Roncalli Newman
Center, 1732 State Street in La Crosse.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church. Burial
will be in the Edgar Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be given to the
Paralyzed Veterans, The La Crosse Warming Center and the Salvation Army.
The family is thankful for the wonderful care given to Roberta by the staff at
Bethany Riverside Nursing Home, Gunderson Hospice Care and Prairie Home Assisted
Living Facility.
