More than a dozen railroad freight offices in this area are the target of a
public service commission authorization to the Soo Line Railroad Co. to close
freight agencies in 42 Wisconsin communities.
The PSC announced its decision Monday, giving the railroad company the go ahead
to proceed with a plan to centralize freight service in the state.
The Medford Soo Line freight office was named as one of the 10 area headquarters
in the centralization plan.
Area communities involved in freight office closing include Dorchester,
Stetsonville, Westboro, Ogema, Sheldon, Gilman, Cadott, Boyd, Stanley, Thorp,
Abbotsford, Athens, Colby, Loyal and Greenwood.
