Sommer, Josephine M. “Josie” (Zinkowich) (23 MAR 1923 - 29 AUG 2016)

Josephine M. “Josie” Sommer, age 93, of Edgar, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 29, 2016 at Country Terrace Assisted Living in Stratford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00PM on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Saint John’s Catholic Church in Edgar with Rev. Thomas Huff officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Poniatowski.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday at the church in Edgar from 10:00AM until time of services. The honor of pallbearer for Josephine belongs to Tim Knoeck, Scott Sommer, Doug Brehm, Darrin Kuehn, Dave Wilichowski and Lucas Kollross.

Josephine was born on March 23, 1923 in the Town of Goodrich in Taylor County, the daughter of Louis and Frances (Budja) Zinkowich. She married Alphonse Sommer on June 30, 1943 at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Athens. Together they owned and operated a dairy in the rural Edgar area. In 1960, Josephine began working at Marathon Cheese Company and later retired after 33 years of employment. Sadly, her husband Alphonse passed away on April 9, 1990.

Her hobbies included baking delicious treats for her family and cleaning and keeping house.
She was a member of Saint John’s Catholic Church in Edgar.

Josephine is lovingly survived by her six children: Mary (Ken) Knoeck of Edgar, Tom (Beth) Sommer of Edgar, Polly Brehm of Edgar, Linda (Bill) Kuehn of Fairwater, Frances (David) Wilichowski of Boyd and Lauri (Joseph) Kollross of Marshfield; 16 grandchildren: Tim Knoeck, Amy Knuth, Scott Sommer, Jason Sommer, Jeffrey Sommer, Doug Brehm, Heidi Schilling, Darrin Kuehn, Tara Boehmer, Jared Kuehn, Casey Kuehn, David Wilichowski, Jenny Siverling, Wendy Bibeau, Paul Wilichowski and Brandt Kollross; two step-grandchildren: Lucas and Marcus Kollross; 42 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Martha Zinkowich and brother-in-law Keith McCluskey along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son-in-law Dick Brehm; a granddaughter Julie Allmann; a great grandson Jake Schilling; six sisters: Frances, Mary, Anne, Ida, Toni and Tina and six brothers: Frank, Louie, Ed, Fritz, Joe and John.
