Smith, Myron F. (9 SEP 1932 – 24 JUL 2016)
Myron F. Smith, 83, Dyer, Ark., formerly of Loyal, passed away on Sunday, July
24, 2016. A memorial service was held at the Dyer Baptist Church.
Myron Floyd Smith was born on Sept. 9, 1932, in Loyal, to Floyd and Myrtle (nee
Goodwin) Smith. He attended schools in Loyal and Dodgeville. At age 17, he
joined the U.S. Navy to see the world. After 18 years in the Navy, he went to
work in heavy construction overseas, stationed in Saigon. He moved back to the
United States the year Saigon fell. He went to work as a long-haul truck driver
for Combined Transport until his retirement. He attended Dyer Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Smith, Dyer, Ark.; three sons, John J. Smith
of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Tom Smith of Tacoma, Wash., and Ralph Smith of
Tacoma, Wash; two step-daughters, Norma Hill of Roland, Ark., and Judy
Churchwell of Searcy, Ark.; two step-sons, Robert Harness of Alma, Ark., and
John Harness of Searcy, Ark.; two sisters, Darlene Ystad of Spanaway, Wash., and
Carla Lane of Dennison, Texas; one adopted daughter, Candice (Smith) Rogers of
Creal Springs, Ill.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ila Mae Nelson.
