Nielson, Mary (7 FEB 1887 – 28 AUG 1971)
Services were held Tuesday afternoon at the United Methodist Church of Spencer
for Mrs. Mary Nielson, 84, of Spencer, who died August 28, 1971 at the Colonial
Nursing Home in Colby, where she had been a resident for the past three months.
The Rev. Bernie A. Scott, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiated at
the service, with burial being made in the Colby Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers
were R. Burnett, Donald Neumann, Lester Bruesewitz, Norman Kommer, Victor
Anderson, Clifford Ammons. Rev. and Mrs. Bernie Scott sang "I Know Who Holds
Tomorrow" and "Near to the Heart of God," accompanied by Mrs. Darrell Roder.
The former Mary Madine was born in Sweden on February 7, 1887, and came to
America at the age of 18, and settled in Chicago. She was married there in 1907
to Anton Nielson, who preceded her in death. The couple made their home in
Chicago and New Lisbon prior to coming to the Spencer area, where they operated
a farm until moving into the village 20 years ago. She was a member of the
United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Eric Nielson, California, Mrs. Carol
Talley, Spencer, and Mrs. Karin Hanson, Spencer, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son.
