Phillips, Edward L. (Drowning - 3 July1974)
The swift Black River claimed another victim last week when a six year old
Plymouth youth was drowned when swimming in the river near the Greenwood Park,
located just north of that city.
The youth, Edward L. Phillips, Jr., was swimming with brothers and sisters when
he apparently stepped into deep water around 1:00 p.m. last Wednesday, July 3.
One of his brothers attempted to rescue Edward but failed in the attempt after
losing a grip on the flailing victim.
The body was recovered in about eight feet of water by Gerald and James
Fontaine, both of Greenwood.
Parents of the boy are Mr. and Mrs. Edward Phillips, Sr., formerly of the
Granton area, and who had returned to the Clark County area for the holidays.
The body was taken to the Rinka Funeral Home and transferred to Sheboygan Falls
where services were held Monday.
Edward, Jr., was born on August 23, 1967, in Neillsville and had completed the
first grade at a Plymouth school.
