Hamann, Milton E. (20 SEP 1934 - 28 AUG 2013)

Milton E. Hamann, age 78, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 under the care of Interim Hospice and Palliative Care at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.

He was born September 20, 1934 in the town of Hamburg, son of the late Arnold and Viola (Graveen) Hamann. On July 29, 1956, he married Mary Ann Schlag at the Zion Lutheran Church in the town of Maine. She survives.

Milton worked as a journeyman millwright at Weyerhauser in Rothschild for 40 years, until his retirement. He enjoyed taking part in the fire brigade and first aid team at the mill. For many years, he was an E. M.T. and volunteer firefighter with the village of Rothschild and retired as assistant chief.

Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed family events, playing cards, watching baseball, hunting and fishing on Lake Gogebic in upper Michigan. Milton loved the outdoors and spending time at his cabin in New Wood. Milton enjoyed traveling and took many spontaneous trips with his wife, Mary Ann. They also traveled to the Golf Shores in Alabama with his brother, Lloyd.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann, children, Julie (Ron) Schuster, and Michael (Coleen) Hamann, all of Merrill; four grandchildren, Jessica Kallberg, Jonathon Schuster, Megan (Daniel) Coffield and Zachary (Sara Belz) Hamann; four great-grandchildren, Triton, Ashton, Lexi and Stephen; one brother, Harold (Lenora) Hamann, Hamburg; brother-in-law, Robert (Marlene) Schlag, Merrill; sister-in-law, Karen (Roger) Lenzner, Merrill, other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey and a brother, Lloyd.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Bell Tower Residence, 1500 O'Day Street, Merrill. Chaplain Don Dinsmore will officiate.

Entombment will be in the Garden of Eternal Rest, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, where full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau.

Friends may call Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Ave, Wausau and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at Bell Tower Residence.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and CNA's at Bell Tower Residence for their compassionate care given to Milton and his family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
