Hansen, Raymond Alfred (27 SEP 1916 – 12 OCT 1966)

Raymond Alfred Hansen, a former Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) resident, died after a lingering illness at the Veterans Hospital at Wood, October 12, 1966.

The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Hansen, Raymond was born in Owen, September 27, 1916 and graduated from the Owen school system in May of 1934. In October of the following year he enlisted in the Navy wand was stationed at Pearl Harbor at the time it was attacked Dec. 7, 1941.

He was then transferred to the U.S.S. Wedderburn and served under Admiral Hasley until the end of the war. He then took two years of duty at Kodiak, Alaska, followed by another two years of duty at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station at Great Lakes, Ill. Prior to joining the U.S.S. Elkhorn and served until the end of the Korean War.

He was honorably discharged from the Navy after 20 years of duty, in October 1955, and on that same day signed up with the U.S. Fleet Reserved. His 30 years of service ended July 22, 1965.

Since his retirement he had made his home in Milwaukee and entered the Veterans Hospital in June of this year.

He leaves to mourn his passing two sisters, Mrs. E.V. (Cecelia) Larsen of Sandy, Oregon; and Mrs. Eino (Mabel) Backa of Milwaukee; three brotehrs, Emil F. of Owen, Wesley M. of Mountain View, Arkansas, and Walter D. of Neshkoro, in addition to several nieces, nephews and a great-great-niece.

Funeral services were conducted from the Chapel at Wood, with Rev. L.E. Dohrman officiating, and burial was made at Wood Cemetery.
