Marine Lance Corporal, Robert D. Lindau, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Lindau of
rte. 1, Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.), is serving with the second battalion, four
Marine Regiment, third Marine Division in the Republic of Vietnam.
The second battalion first landed in Vietnam in May 1965 at Chu Lai, and became
ne of the first U.S. Marine units to engage in combat with the enemy.
In July of this year they became one of the first units to fight the North
Vietnamese Army in the northern sector of South Vietnam, near the demilitarized
zone and participated in two multi-battalion operations – Hastings and Prairie.
Located near Phu Bai air strip, they provide security for several vital
installations in the area.
