Hoey, Mr./Mrs. E.J. (Serious Home Fire – 21 Apr 1919)
On Monday afternoon the home of Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Hoey caught fire in some
unknown manner and before the blaze could be extinguished, a considerable amount
of damage had been done. Mrs. Hoey was at home getting ready to go to Eau Claire
on the afternoon train and the first intimation she had of a fire was when
notified by neighbors that the roof was ablaze. The fire company responded
quickly and did really efficient and careful work in putting out the fire and
removing all the furniture. The blaze seemed to have started in the attic and it
is thought that a spark from the chimney had settled on the roof and started the
fire. The west portion of the house was badly damaged and water soaked, but the
house and contents were fully covered by insurance.
