Because Pam Harrellson, 13-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Connie (Tom) Harrellson, Dorchester, saved a young child’s life a year ago, she will journey to Madison Thursday with her parents and escorted by Dorchester Chief of Police, William Hussong, in the village squad car to receive the Governor’s Youth Award from Governor Patrick Lucey at the capitol’s Rotunda Room.

Governor Lucey will present the award to Miss Harrellson at 11 a.m., along with 14 others from the state for meritorious service in their community.

Pam is receiving the award as a result of an incident that occurred on a Dorchester street a year ago in April. Randy Mueller, then four years old, and the son of Mrs. Barbara Mueller, was playing with a group of children when he accidentally swallowed the suction cup from a dart pistol the children were playing with. The object was about three fourths of an inch in diameter.

As Randy began to cough and choke, and could not get any breath. Pam slapped him on the back several times. She hit his throat, thinking that would dislodge the article, but as his face was turning blue, he was gasping for, Pam grabbed the boy by the feet and held him upside down and pounded his back several times, and Randy expelled the object. Due to Pam’s quick thinking and action Randy is fine and alive today.
