Johnson, Anita B. (5 MAR 1928 – 18 OCT 2016)

Anita B. Johnson, age 88, of Curtiss, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Colonial Center in Colby. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2016 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Tim Oudenhoven will officiate. Inurnment to follow at the Pine Hill Cemetery in the Town of Mayville. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Anita was born on March 5, 1928, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Danen) Habermeyer in Stetsonville. She graduated from Medford High School and attended Normal Teachers School. On October 29, 1947, Anita was united in marriage to Lyle Johnson in Stetsonville. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1993.

Anita was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the PCCW. She was an avid reader, especially about history. Anita enjoyed tending her flower garden, traveling and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She also liked playing cards and was part of the Curtiss card club. Anita also placed flags in Pine Hill and Norwegian Lutheran Cemeteries in Curtiss and North Green Grove Cemetery for Memorial Day for many years.

Anita is survived by her four children: Dennis (Sherry) of Abbotsford, Larry (LuAnn) of Dorchester, Cheryl (Greg) Sterzinger of Colby and Bryan (Rose) of Marshfield; eight grandchildren: Mike (Jenny) of Kronenwetter, Steve (Jennifer) of Rib Mountain, Christy (David) Burg of Altoona, Matt (Tami) of Spencer, Sarah (Mike) Jelski of Valparaiso, IN, Stacey Sterzinger of Colby, Jason (Lindsey) of Marshfield and Aaron (Heather) of Marshfield; eight great-grandchildren: Olivia, Garrett, Madisen, Austyn, Zayla, Wyatt, Vivianna and Gemma. She is further survived by two sisters and one brother: Joan Paul of Colby, Mae Fetzer of Waunakee and Eugene (Mary) Habermeyer of Normal, IL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle and a sister, Betty Beck.
