Braverman, Blair (Wisconsin Author - 2016)

By Nancy Curtin

Wisconsin Author, Blair Braverman, visited Loyal High School and the Loyal Public Library Oct. 11 to introduce and sign her first book, Welcome to the Doddamn Ice Cube: Chasing Fear and Finding Home in the Great White North, and share her adventures as a musher in the iconic Iditarod sled race in Alaska.

Originally from northern California, Braverman currently lives in Mountain, WI, with her fiancé and her sled dogs.

At the young age of 18, she left California to attend a dog sledding school in Norway. During her stay, she was a tour guide on an Alaskan glacier.

Welcome to the Goddamn Ice Cube contains a lot of her adventures in Norway while confronting danger and developing the strength and resilience the landscape demanded of her.

To date, Braverman has competed in races in Wisconsin, upper Michigan and Canada and is currently training her dogs, with hope of running in the 2018 Iditarod.

She needs to complete 700 miles of races to qualify.

Elroy Roedel, a veterinarian in Loyal, met her at a dog sled race in Bayfield, while serving as one of the check point veterinarians along the course.

He encouraged Braverman to share her stories with the community while promoting her new book.

Copies of Welcome to the Goddamn Ice Cube are available for purchase at the Loyal Public Library.
