A blaze of undetermined origin destroyed the 32 x 76 foot barn on the Sabin
Scherf farm in the town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.) late yesterday afternoon.
The Owen Community Fire Association received the alarm at 4:40 p.m.
They made the run to the farm located two and one-half miles south of Withee on
Highway 73, and one mile west, and stood by to protect other buildings from any
threat while the barn burned out.
Mr. Scherf said there was one calf in the barn when he first noticed the fired
and it was freed. He has not had any cattle on the farm for several months, and
only a few bales of hay were in the mow. He said it appeared the fire started
about the center of the mow.
