Haaya, Donald E. Sr. (25 SEP 1909 – 7 JUL 1967)
A former Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) resident Donald E. Haaya Sr., passed away at
12:15 a.m. Friday, July 7, 1967, at St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee. A sudden
illness had occurred earlier in the week.
Don was born September 25, 1909, in Aurora, Minnesota. He came to Owen in the
fall of 1916, when the family established a grocery store with an uncle, Mr.
Alex Mattson. Don attended the Owen grade and high schools, and he also attended
the University of Wisconsin. He was associated in the grocery business until May
of 1941, when he moved to Milwaukee. He was still a member of the Owen Masonic
Lodge.
On July 9, 1939, Don was married to Miss Ruth Shulstad of Iron River and a
former teacher in the Owen school system.
Don is survived by his wife, Ruth, a daughter, Mary E. of Chicago; a sons, Lance
Cpl. Donald E. Jr., U.S. Marine Corps; and a sister, Mrs. W.K. (Thelma) Pool of
Milwaukee, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 10 at the Schmidt-Bartelt Funeral
Home in MIlwaukee. Interment was made at Pine Lawn Memorial Park, Milwaukee.
