LOYAL – Gertrude Catherine Braun, 91, Marshfield, formerly of Loyal, died Oct. 7, 1997, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Hospice Care Unit in Marshfield.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at Rinka Funeral Home.

She was born Feb. 22, 1906, in Loyal. She had worked at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Chicago.

She is survived by a sister, Clare Mueller of Marshfield.

Braun, Gertrude Catherine (Feb. 1906 – 7 October 1997) With Flag

Gertrude Catherine Braun, 91, 206 Concord, Marshfield, formerly of Loyal, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital (missing) Care Unit on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Loyal, with the Rev. Roman (missing) officiating. Burial was in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Members of the American Legion Post #175 served as pallbearers.

Gertrude was born February 1906, to Alois and Mary (Behrens) Braun, in Loyal. She never married. She received her education in St. Anthony’s Parochial School and was a graduate of Loyal High School and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing.

She was born and raised in Loyal. After high school, she studied three years at St. Joseph’s School of nursing. She then worked throughout the Midwest until entering the U.S. Army during WWII. After the war, she worked at the V.A. Hospital in Chicago for 10 years. She then moved back to Loyal and cared for her sister Dorothy. She moved to Marshfield in 1989 and entered the Marshfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in August 1997.

Gertrude was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the Loyal American Legion Post #175.

Surviving are one sister, Claire Mueller of Marshfield; two nieces; June (Ron) Hoeser of Loyal, Mary (Charles) Lee of Chicago; and one nephew, Al Braun of New Richmond.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: Roman, Herbert and Dorothy Braun.
