THORP – John Szczech, 85, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday at Victory Medical Center Nursing Home, Stanley.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sts. Bernard-Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp, with the Rev. John Puerner officiating. Burial will be in New St. Hedwig’s Cemetery, Thorp.

Visitation will be at the church from 3-9 p.m. Wednesday and before service time Thursday morning. A rosary service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Thorp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

He was born on Oct. 22, 1907, in Thorp, town of Reseburg, to the late Joseph and Julia Szczech.

He lived and farmed in the town of Reseburg, rural Thorp, for many years. He had been a resident of the nursing home for the past eight years.

He is survived by one sister, Alexandra Drake of Berkeley, Ill.
