Olson, Stanley L. (15 FEB 1929 – 6 NOV 2016)
Stanley L. Olson, 87, Greenwood, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, at the
Clark County Living & Rehab Center, Owen. Funeral services will be held at 11
a.m., on Thursday, Nov. 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. Rev.
Steve Brice will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Olson, Adam Olson, Erik Gardner, Joe Gardner, Craig
Johnson and Paul McMillan. Visitation will be held at the church, on Thursday,
from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
Stanley Lloyd Olson was born on Feb. 15, 1929, in La Crosse, the son of William
and Vera (nee Rose) Olson. In 1935, Stanley’s family moved to Waukesha, where he
was raised and received his education. After completing his education, he
entered the Wisconsin National Guard, where he served in the 32nd Division from
1947-54. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army in February 1954 and served during
the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1956. Stanley married Amy M.
Ehlers on Dec. 1, 1950, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waukesha. He worked
at Waukesha Engine for a short time before becoming employed at Rexnord in
Milwaukee, as a heavy equipment operator, until his retirement in 1984. After
retiring, they moved to Greenwood, where he resided until his death. He had many
interests, but especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Stanley was a member of
St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Greenwood American Legion where he was a past
post commander, the Rock Dam Rod & Gun Club, and was a former supervisor for the
town of Mead.
He is survived by his wife, Amy, of Greenwood; four children: Teresa (Allen)
Johnson of Greenwood, Ron (Mary) Olson of Waukesha, Karen (John) Gardner of
Waukesha, and Margaret “Maggie” (Mike) Schroeder of Pewaukee; 10 grandchildren;
five great-grandchildren; one brother: Jim (Joyce) Olson of Winneconne; one
sister: Janice McGuire of Okauchee; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Wayne and Robert
Olson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the Greenwood
American Legion, PO Box 176, Greenwood, WI 54437.
