Stroetz, Donald Harry (11 FEB 1930 - 30 OCT 2016)
Donald Harry Stroetz, age 86, of Stratford, passed away peacefully with his
family by his side early Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at Miller’s Alternative Care,
Marshfield.
Don was born Feb. 11, 1930, son of Harry and Wilma (Sersch) Stroetz in
Marshfield. He attended Marshfield schools.
He enlisted in the Army National Guard on May 15, 1951, and was honorably
discharged on March 22, 1954.
On Feb. 2, 1952, Don was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jane
McGivern, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Jane preceded Don in death
on March 22, 2016. Don worked at Marshfield Homes for 19 years. Don and Jane
owned and operated Stroetz’s Tap for 17 years. He was also a proud and loving
father, grandpa and great-papa Don.
Don and Jane enjoyed snowmobiling. They also loved to go on road trips gambling.
He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren at the many family get togethers, Christmas and birthdays.
There were many happy times spent up north at the cottage. He was an avid Packer
and Wisconsin Badger fan. Don was known to be quite a jokester.
Don is lovingly survived by his children, Mary Jane (David) Swenson, Nancy
(Gene) Schneider, Patty Kmiec, Jim Stroetz, Barb Peterson and Karen (Leonard)
Daniels; his grandchildren, Mark (Tina Worzella) Swenson, Andy Swenson, John
(Heather) Swenson, Terri Vanderboom, Brenda (Matt) Churkey, Mike (Tammy
Livingston) Kmiec, Justin Peterson, Devan, Colin and Brandon Daniels and
Michelle Heiman; as well as six great-grandchildren. He is further survived by
his brother, Leroy (Lynn) Stroetz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons-in-law, Tom Kmiec and Russ
Peterson; as well as his siblings, Dorothy Zepplin, Bill Stroetz, Bob Stroetz,
Caroline Aldrich and Bernadine Stroetz in infancy. He will be truly missed.
A celebration of life was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at Zion
United Methodist Church, 2106 North Peach Avenue, Marshfield. Don and Jane were
united in burial at Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield. His grandchildren were
pallbearers. Visitation was from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday
at the church.
Special thank you to Miller’s Alternative Care, Hospice Care and a special thank
you to Krissie Krall. Thank you to Don and Jane’s special friend, Fran, for
bringing him the good liver and onions which Don enjoyed, to A.J. for taking Don
to play cards on Tuesdays at “The Shack”, and to Don’s brother, Leroy, who
visited often.
