Thurs, James "Jim" D. (27 DEC 1937 - 16 MAR 2015)

James "Jim" D. Thurs, 77, Wausau, died Monday, March 16, 2015 at Aspirus Hospice House.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

He was born December 27, 1937 in Wausau, son of the late William and Margaret (Deering) Thurs. On April 29, 1972, he married Judith Bittner at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wausau. She survives.

Jim worked as a painting contractor in the Wausau area from 1962 until his retirement in 2011. He also served in the National Guard.

Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Judy, spending time outdoors, fishing, camping and most of all, spending time with his many grandchildren.

Survivors include, his wife of almost 43 years, Judy Thurs, Wausau; five children, Tim (Renee) Woller, Wausau, Terry (Lisa) Woller, Wausau, Tammy (Don) Hummer, Warwick, NY, Thomas (Tracy) Woller, Arbor Vitae and Tina Day, Rhinelander; 17 grandchildren, Beth (fiancé Jesse Drake) Woller, Cory, Nathan, Ryan, Brendon, Mariah and Justin Woller, Jimi (Sylvia) Hummer, Patrick (Amanda) Hummer, Dylan, Alyson and Emily Hummer, Hannah, Logan and Isaiah Woller and Jake and Josh Day; three great-grandchildren, Braelynn Woller and Charlie and Lucy Hummer; and one sister, Jeanette (Frank) Kroll, Winter Park, Florida.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Rick Thurs.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Aspirus Hospice House, Dr. Clarissa Renken and Dr. Christopher Peterson for the wonderful care and support for Jim.
