Shirley L. Thurs, 73, Athens died Tuesday, June 12, 2012 under the care of
Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at her home surrounded by her loving
family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at St. Peter
Lutheran Church, town of Hamburg. The Rev. Philip Bogen will officiate. Burial
will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m.
until the time of services at the church.
She was born July 27, 1938 in the town of Hamburg, daughter of the late Paul and
Erna (Lodholz) Wilde. On April 25, 1959 she married Elgart Thurs at Our Savior
Lutheran Church, Wausau. He survives.
Shirley was a dairy farmer and homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Elgart Thurs, Athens, one daughter, Karen (Steve)
Shimek, Wausau, one granddaughter, Cassondra Shimek, Wausau, three sisters, Ruth
(Elroy) Brandt, Wausau, Virene (Arlis) Cramer, Wausau and Jeanne Wilde, Milton
and one brother, William (Lorraine) Wilde, Wausau along with many nieces and
nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by one daughter, Charlene Thurs and twelve
brothers and sisters.
