Olsen, Arthur J. (28 OCT 1922 – 18 NOV 2016)

Arthur J. Olsen, age 94, of Loyal, passed away at Golden Living Center - Three Oaks, in Marshfield, on Friday, November 18, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, November 25, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal, with Rev. Daniel Zimmerman officiating. Burial will take place in the Loyal Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers will be: Luke Olsen, John Edwards, Zach Edwards, Stephanie Kuohujoki, Jaron Olson, Amin Eshaq, Larry Rueth and Jim Helm. Visitation will be held at the church, on Friday, from 9 am until time of service.

Arthur James Olsen was born on October 28, 1922 in the Town of Warner, rural Greenwood, the son of Christian and Angeline ( nee Dyre) Olsen. He was raised on the family farm and received his elementary education in Greenwood and Loyal, He attended one year of high school in Riplinger, graduating from Loyal High School in 1941. During high school, Art worked as a soda jerk at Wepfer’s Drug Store in Loyal. He was united in marriage to Beverly Mae Pieper on October 18, 1944. They worked and resided in Loyal until moving to Milwaukee in the fall of 1948. Art worked at Allen-Bradley until the spring of 1959, at which time they moved back to Loyal and bought a farm northwest of town. They sold the farm in the spring of 1981, and moved into Loyal. After retiring from the farm, Art drove school bus for Dahl’s Bus Service from 1983 to 2000. He also stayed busy doing woodworking and carpentry work. His wife, Beverly, died on April 5, 2005. Art continued to live in Loyal until moving to the Hometown Village Apartments, in Loyal, in 2011. He later entered the Clark County Health Care Center and then moved to Golden Living Center-Three Oaks, in Marshfield.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served in various capacities on the church council, served on the Loyal School Board, was Mayor of the City of Loyal for two separate terms, totaling 13 years of service, was a member of the Loyal Snow Angels Snowmobile Club, and was a volunteer fi reman for the Town of Beaver when he was on the farm.

Art had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his family and friends, bowling, playing dartball, camping and playing sheepshead.

He is survived by 3 children: James A. of Lubbock, TX, Audrey Olsen of Loyal, Bill (Dori) of Arpin; 6 grandchildren: Stephanie (Sage) Kuohujoki, Jennifer (Amin) Eshaq, John (Nancy) Edwards, Alyce Edwards, Luke Olsen, Lauryn Olsen; 9 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; 2 brothers: Rev. Floyd Olsen of Hutchinson, MN, John (Gladys) Olsen of Marshfield; one sister: Ella Stevens of Eau Claire; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; one daughter: Correen, in infancy on April 6, 1959; one grandson: Patrick Olson on June 7, 2006; and 3 brothers: Howard, Vern and Conrad Olsen.
