Sandra "Sandy" K. Thurs, 51, town of Hamburg, died Thursday, September 26, 2013 in Hamburg, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 280 County Road A, Marathon. Rev. Philip Bogen will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again on Monday from 11:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.

She was born January 11, 1962 in Merrill, daughter of Violet (Oestreich) Volz of Hamburg and the late Ralph Volz. On November 10, 1984, she married Randy J. Thurs at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. He survives.

Sandy farmed alongside her husband for 29 years in Hamburg. She was a Sunday School Teacher Superintendent, a Director for the 4-H Leaders' Association in Lincoln County, Chairperson of the Poultry Department for the Lincoln County Fair, Superintendent of the Photography Department of the Wisconsin Valley Fair, and for many years, sold eggs at the Wausau farmers market.

Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed painting ceramics, tending to her flower beds and spending time with her family. She also loved her farm animals and her home was always open to anyone in need.

Survivors include, her husband, Randy Thurs, Hamburg; her mother, Violet Volz, Hamburg; three children, Erica Thurs, Marshfield, Daniel and Brandon Thurs, both of Hamburg; her father and mother-in-law, Wilmer and Alladine Thurs, Hamburg; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Besides her father, Ralph, she was preceded in death by two infant sisters.
