Thurs, Ronald Ervin (11 JUN 1939 - 26 MAY 2008)

Ronald Ervin Thurs, 68, Athens, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. Rev. Andrew Alberts will officiate. Burial will be in Athens Village Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 312 Caroline St., Athens and again on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

He was born June 11, 1939 in town of Hamburg, son of the late Walter and Hilma (Hardt) Thurs. On February 6, 1960 he married Jean Ann Faber at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Medford. She survives.

Ronald graduated from Athens High School in 1957 and worked in construction for many years at Michels Construction and at the former GTE. He also drove truck for Thurs Trucking. He was a former Halsey Town Chairman and some of his hobbies included fishing, hunting, and playing baseball. He never missed going to his grandchildren's events and enjoyed watching NASCAR.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Ann, Athens; children, Debra (Will) Gertschen, Marathon and Ronald (Jean) Thurs, Athens; grandchildren, Sirena, Miranda, Mikayla, Samantha and Daniel; great grandson, Brayden; sister, Sherry (Skip) Gayken, Weston; mother-in-law, Theresia Faber, Goodrich; sisters-in-law, Judy Thurs, Athens and Virginia (Alan) Woller, Merrill; brothers-in-law, Edward (Phyllis) Faber, Medford and Henry (Jackie) Faber, Athens; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Delwin Thurs, father-in-law, Peter Faber and a nephew, Steven Faber.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
