Stenberg, Ethel (Frankki) (8 OCT 1949 - 22 NOV 2016)

Ethel Stenberg, age 67, of Merrill, passed away on Tuesday Nov. 22, 2016 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Ethel was born on Oct. 8, 1949 in Medford to the late John and Alma (Leino) Frankki. On Oct. 24, 1998 Ethel and Stanley Stenberg were united in marriage in Las Vegas, NV and he survives.

After graduating high school, Ethel went on to vocational school for court reporting. She worked for eleven years as an administrative assistant for the courthouse district attorney. Ethel loved camping, so it was fitting that she managed the Cedar Falls Campground with her husband for ten years. She enjoyed playing computer games, working jigsaw puzzles, reading and baking apple pies with the apples from her tree. Ethel also loved music and singing, but especially loved spending time with her family and her dog Ringo. She loved looking in the sky and watching the clouds, which may have been the inspiration to many beautiful poems she wrote. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Irma.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley Stenberg, of Merrill; four children, Scott (Pat) of Stenberg, N.C., Connie Goldbricht of Merrill, Todd Stenberg of Waukesha and Michele (Dean) Dorgay of South Milwaukee; two step-daughters, Connie Wing-Betker and Nancy Wing-Hickman; 11 grandchildren, Jeff (McKenzie) Stenberg, Dr. Robert (Kristen) Stenberg, Sarah (Brian) Draves, Wendy (Zachery) Brooks, Amanda, Casey, Alexandrea and Ashlyn Stenberg, Chelsea (Nick) Tryggestad, Samantha (Devin) McFarlin, and Kayla Dorgay; 5 great-grandchildren; nine siblings, Shirley (Jack) Smith and Jim (Dorothy) Frankki, Ruth (Wayne) Dupuis, Richard (Jan) Frankki and Carol (Gary) Ellenbecker all of Medford, Alice (Larry) Rogers of Waukesha, Linda (Ronnie) Schmitt of Waukesha, Paul (Judy) Frankki of Stetsonville, twin sister, Elaine (Jim) Leppala of Watton, Mich.; many nieces and nephews and godchildren (nieces), Brenda Sales and Tiffany Volkman.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, John Frankki, George Frankki, Al Frankki and one in infancy.

Funeral services for Ethel were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Irma with Rev. Hans Heisinger officiating. Visitation was from 12 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday, also at the church. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Skanawan.
