Heggelund, Gene A. (28 OCT 1916 - 19 NOV 2016)

Gene A. Heggelund, Age 86, of Marshfield, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen, under the care of Home Care Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield with Rev. Savarimuthu Selvaraj officiating. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday at Life Tributes Funeral Home in Spencer from 5PM until 8PM and again on Saturday at the church from 10AM until time of service. A Knights of Columbus Rosary Service will be held at 7PM at the funeral home on Friday evening.

The honor of pallbearer belongs to his grandchildren.

Gene Allen Heggelund was born in Marshfield on April 4, 1930, the son of the late Chris and Irene (Poppy) Heggelund.

He attended Dairy Belt Grade School where he was valedictorian and sole member of his class and later graduating from Marshfield Senior High. Upon graduation Gene served his country in the United States Army in Korea from August 1951 until his honorable discharge in August 1953. In 2013 Gene and his son Eric took part in the Never Forgotten Honor Flight to Washington, DC.

He was united in marriage to Rosemary Anne David on May 10, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield.

He was employed with the Wood County Highway Department for 44 years until his retirement in January of 1991. Gene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Marshfield. He enjoyed 70 years of archery and rifle hunting with his family in Wisconsin and Wyoming. Gene’s lifetime deer harvest totals include 57 antlered bucks and 45 antlerless. He also enjoyed fishing, trap, skeet, sporting clays, bowling, water skiing and dancing, Gene and Rosemary were fabulous dance partners.

Gene is survived by his wife Rosemary of 61 years; his children: Brian (Susan) Heggelund of Marshfield, Carmen (Daniel) Reis of Marshfield, Rita (Randy) Stelpflug of China, MI and Eric (Anne) Heggelund of Ringle and his sister Charlotte Coon of Marshfield. He is further survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Chris and Irene Heggelund; father and mother-in-law Wendle and Theckla David; son Gregory Heggelund; two daughters: Cynthia Kohl and Tamara Heggelund; a son-in-law Earl Kohl; a great grandson Wyatt Kohl; a brother Lawrence Heggelund; six brother-in-laws: Ed Coon, Jerry David, Dan David, Donald Drews, Jack David and Charles Trowbridge; four sister-in-laws: Elaine Heggelund, Sylvia David, Cecilia Trowbridge and Silveria Drews and a nephew Lee Heggelund.
