Huth, Gene Douglas (4 February 1940 – 29 November 2016) With Flag

Gene Huth, 76, of Granton died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield after a short illness.

Gene Douglas Huth was born Feb. 4, 1940, in Milwaukee, the son of Arnold and Frances (St. John) Huth. He entered the United States Air Force Feb. 8, 1957, at the age of 17. After his honorable discharge, March 8, 1961, he drove gravel truck for Plautz/Pekol, worked at Consolidated Papers in Wisconsin Rapids and for most his life, worked at Schneider Trucking as a truck driver. He was united in marriage to Edna Lindner Oct. 7, 1961, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sherwood. He retired from Schneider’s at the age of 57.

Gene was the president of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sherwood, the chairman of the Town of Washburn, served on the town board for 16 years, was the president of the Granton Area Fire Board, served on the Neillsville Municipal Ambulance Board and was a member of the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post #73.

Gene was an awesome father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was the most important part of his life, and he was very involved in their lives. He loved making wood and riding motorcycle.

He is survived by four children: Pam (Kenny) Friemoth of Granton, Dawn (Richard) Wendorf of Merrill, Shane Huth of Granton and Travis Huth of Granton; nine grandchildren: Jacob (Sherry) Friemoth, Kyle (Michele) Friemoth, Cody Friemoth, Luke (Katie) Friemoth, Lance Robinson, Douglas Kuehl, Tanner Huth, Christine (Joe) Bartel and Victoria Huth; nine great-grandchildren; four siblings: John (Mary) Huth of DePere, Nela Stacy of Mauston, Bernard (Donna) Huth of Dorchester and Shari (Joe) Wolk of Thorp; along with numerous nieces, and nephews..

He was preceded in death by his wife Edna in 1981, his parents, a brother, Arnold “Bud” Huth, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Huth.

Funeral services for Gene were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pittsville. Pastor Gary Markworth officiated. Music was provided by Ashley Volovsek, organist. The Neillsville Veteran’s Council performed military honors. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Gesche Funeral home and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Casketbearers were his grandsons: Jacob Friemoth, Kyle Friemoth, Cody Friemoth, Luke Friemoth, Lance Robinson, Douglas Kuehl and Tanner Huth.
