He was born July 26, 1923 in Edgar, son of the late Anton and Balbena (Wirkus) Hornung. On June 3, 1947, he married Virginia Goldbach at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She preceded him in death on October 26, 1990.

Jake was former president of the Edgar Coop, former supervisor of the town of Cassel and was actively involved at St. John Catholic Church. Jake attended mass daily and his friends showed concern when he was not there. He lived a very full life and enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog, Frank. Jake lived his entire life at 3347 Bluebird Lane and had a passion for farming. He was always thinking of something new that he wanted to try. He was a "jack of all trades" and could fix or make just about anything. Among his favorite pastimes, he loved gardening, canning and baking pies.

Survivors include, six children, Sandra (John) Jacques, Green Bay, Charles (Cathy) Hornung, North Fond du Lac, Barbara (Dan) Parlier, Marathon, Donna (Marv) Schlais, Marathon, Paul (Louise) Hornung, Edgar and Jane (Sam) Hilgemann, De Pere; 17 grandchildren, Thomas Jacques, Robert Jacques, Dana (Eric) Pease, Rachel (Shannon) Butalla, Lynsey (Troy) Seubert, Jennifer (Justin) Ruplinger, Terese (Jeff) Kunick, Allison (Stu) Ninabuck, Brice (Lindsey) Hilgemann, Tyler Hilgemann, Jessica (Matthew) Fillebrown, Amanda (Robert) Clarke, Stephanie (Michael) Tack, Brad (Jody) Hornung, David (Ellie) Hornung, Brad Zank and Amber Zank; 15 great grandchildren, Jake, Nate, Carley and Susannah Pease, Claire, Brett, William and Kendyl Butalla, Damian Seubert, Dax and Laken Ruplinger, Briggs Ninabuck, Kaleb, Sophia and Anastasia Fillebrown; one brother, Tony Hornung, Michigan; and one sister, Betty (Ed) Emanuel, Washington.

Besides his parents and wife, Virginia, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Eleanor, Marcella, Angeline, Winifred and Virginia.

The family wishes to thank the Edgar ambulance crew: Al Butt, Joe Heil and Dave Wagener along with the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital for all their kindness.
