Steingraber, Reuben George (27 Oct 1921* - 10 FEB 2009)

Reuben G. Steingraber, 87, Edgar, passed away peacefully at Mountain View Regional Medical Center, Las Cruces, N.M. with his niece, Dawn and nephew, Lester at his side.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church, Edgar. Rev. LaDonna Ekern will officiate. Burial will be in the Edgar Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.

He was born October 27, 1921 in Maple Creek, Wis., son of the late Henry and Emma (Stroesenreuther) Steingraber. On November 19, 1955, he married Clara E. Weinkauf. She survives.

Reuben spent his early years in Sugar Bush and New London and worked on his father's farm and numerous local area farms. In the late 1940's he moved to Chicago. Reuben and Clara both loved to dance and actually met at a dance hall. For many years, Reuben worked for Peterson Steel Products which produced Weber grills. He was head usher and served on the church council at Wicker Park Lutheran Church, Illinois for many years until retirement.

In 1990, Reuben and Clara moved to her hometown of Edgar, where they were active at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church and enjoyed numerous family functions. In August of 2006, Reuben and Clara moved into a retirement apartment at Good Samaritan Society Las Cruces Village, Las Cruces, N.M. to be close to their nephew, Lester and niece, Dawn MacPherson.

Survivors include, his wife, Clara Steingraber, Las Cruces, N.M.; and five nieces and nephews, Lester MacPherson, Katherine Smith, Gary Steingraber, Richard Steingraber and Lois Hintz.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Myra MacPherson; and two brothers, Elmer and Clarence Steingraber.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church, Edgar.
