Looker, Mr./Mrs. Cecil (Gold – 11 FEB 1968)
An open house was held Sunday, February 11, 1968 at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Cecil Looker in Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) celebrating their Golden Wedding
Anniversary. About 125 guests, relatives and friends called on them between 2
and 5 p.m. The lovely tiered wedding cake and bouquets of chrysanthemums
decorated the luncheon table, being gifts from their son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Looker. Golden chrysanthemums were used to fashion the corsage
and boutonniere worn by the anniversary couple.
The couple received many lovely gifts, which included two plants, a money tree,
cards and cash gifts. Included in the day's activities were three telephone
calls, one from Mr. Looker's sister, Mrs. Opal Lange of Atherton, California,
and one from Mrs. Looker's sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Page of St. Cloud,
Minnesota, and from a close friend, Mrs. Clarence Reed of Peoria, Illinois.
Three sisters of Mr. Looker were in attendance, being Mrs. Veda Mertens, Withee;
Mrs. Velma Stewart of Greenwood, and Mrs. Mary Matzke of Wausau, all of whom
were in attendance at their wedding in 1918. Mrs. Mertens was one of the
attendants.
Mr. Looker was born June 2, 1894, in Bloom City to Mr. and Mrs. William Looker.
He attended Richland County schools and farmed in that county before marriage.
Mrs. Looker, the former Freda Fogo, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fogo March
5, 1900, at Viola. She also attended Richland Country schools and lived on a
farm in that county prior to her marriage.
After the couple was married, the Lookers spent a year in Richland County, then
moved to a place three miles north of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), where they
resided 29 1/2 years. The next 18 years were spent northeast of Owen in the town
of Hoard, and for the past six months the couple has been living in Owen. Their
retirement occurred in 1960.
In their retirement the couple is enjoying their hobbies, fancy work for Mrs.
Looker and flowers and gardening for him.
Their three sons are Emil Ray of route 1, Withee; Thomas of Osseo, and Glen
Wallace of Wauwatosa. All were present for the anniversary event. An only
daughter, Lois Geraldine Looker, died July 18, 19?9.
There are 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
