Alfred was born on June 18, 1945, to Edwin A. and Esther S. (Mueller) Weideman
in the town of Holton. He attended Abbotsford Elementary School and was a 1964
graduate of Dor-Abby High School. Alfred married Bonnie Melvin on Nov. 28, 1975,
at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. They farmed in the Abbotsford-Colby
area. After farming, Alfred worked for Wausau Homes in Wausau for 18 years
before he retired.
Alfred was a lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. He was an
usher and served on various committees. He built a flower bed display for the
75th church anniversary. He also created a Christmas nativity display for many
years.
Alfred was an active member of Abbotsford Jaycees, serving in many capacities
including president. He also had a mixed couple’s softball team in Abbotsford
for years. He enjoyed all sports including bowling and skiing. He was passionate
about pool and watching Badger and Packer football games. Alfred was a member of
the area church dartball teams and often kept the records for the games and
arranged for the trophies for the yearly banquets. He took pride in his work,
always trying to help others along. Alfred loved people. He liked talking with
friends and relatives and meeting new people. Alfred helped organize many high
school class reunions and family reunions. He had an infectious laugh and loved
a good story.
Alfred’s happiest role was that of “Grandpa.” His pride and deepest joy were his
four grandkids. He enjoyed playing chess with Will, hosting tea parties with
Brenna and playing trucks and reading books to James and Samuel.
