A 1965 graduate of the Owen-Withee High School has become the new "Miss Stevens
Point."
Elizabeth Bowen, daughter of Mrs. Mary Bowen, Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.), was
conferred the title February 25, 1968 in a pageant held for 10 contestants.
She is a student at Wisconsin State University, Stevens Point, and a member of
Alpha Phi Sorority. Besides a bouquet of 18 long stemmed roses presented her at
the pageant, she received a $300 scholarship, new wardrobe, and an invitation to
participate in the Miss Wisconsin pageant this summer at Oshkosh.
Elizabeth was honored at a reception at WSU following her coronation program.
Earlier, she had participated in evening gown, swimsuit and talent competition.
Her talent selection was a folk song, "Time We've Had," for which she provided
her own guitar accompaniment.
Miss Kathleen L. Negard, Stevens Point, was the first runner-up and winter of
the "Miss Congeniality" trophy. Miss Susan Jean Buenger, Brookfield, third
runner-up, and Miss Peggy Gay, Portage, fourth runner-up.
All of the 10 candidates are students at WSU, Stevens Point.
