Meier, Clarence Arnold (17 April 1927 – 9 December 2016)
Clarence Meier, 89, of Neillsville died Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, surrounded by his
loving family in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph’s hospital in
Marshfield.
Clarence Arnold Meier was born April 17, 1927, on the family farm in
Neillsville, the son of Adolph and Christina (Dobes) Meier. He met the love of
his life, Marie Dux, in the mid1940s at Everett and Angie Dux’s wedding. A few
years later, June 30, 1951, they were united in marriage at St. John’s
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville, and for 65 years they remained
inseparable. Clarence and Marie started their married life farming on the Meier
family farm. In 1957, while continuing to farm, Clarence went to work for the
Nelson Muffler Factory. He worked his way up the ladder at Nelson, eventually
becoming shop foreman. He retired in 1989, after 32 years, and in 1996, he and
Marie sold the cows and took their first vacation trip to Canada.
Clarence was a lifelong member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in
Neillsville. He worked too hard to have many hobbies, but he enjoyed his farm,
especially giving four-wheeler and lawn mower rides to his grandchildren and
raising Koi fish in his pond.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; a son, Jeff (Karen) Meier of Oshkosh;
grandchildren, Ian (Jacie) Meier and their children, Myla, Olin and Edsy all of
Sparta; Seth (Carrie) Meier and their children, Stella and a soon to be
great-granddaughter, all of Appleton; and Jeb (Ali) Meier and their children,
Hadley and Madison, all of Wauwatosa; a special niece, Sheila Petras of Cary,
IL; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Meier, of Spring Valley; a brother-in-law, Harold
Beyer, of Neillsville; and a sister-in-law, Inez Meier, of Neillsville.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie; 11
siblings and his parents.
Funeral services for Clarence will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14,
2016, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Timothy
Biebert will officiate. Music will be provided by Judy Trunkel, organist.
Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral Home and will
be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Online condolences may be made at

family with funeral arrangements.
