A group of Abbotsford city council members and former council members honored
A.J. Schmirler at a dinner Monday night at the House of Dav-Ed at Abbotsford.
Mr. Schmirler retired May 1, 1969, after serving for 25 years as treasurer for
the city of Abbotsford.
His position has been filled by Mrs. James Nikolay, City Clerk, and the two
positions now have been combined.
Frank Nikolay, who was city attorney much of this time, lauded Mr. Schmirler for
his 25 years of devotion to the community.
Mr. Nikolay cited him for his life of service, stating that Mr. Schmirler, in
his service, showed intelligence and knowledge of his job, knowledge of his
community, and that he showed loyalty nd integrity in carrying out his work.
Other talks were also given by Mayor Steve Bezak, former village president
Walter Danielson, and former city council members.
A gold watch was presented to Mr. Schmirler on behalf of the group by C.J.
Klieforth, who was chairman of the event.
