King, Harry Albert (19 April 1928 – 25 December 2016)

Harry King, 88, of Neillsville, WI, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, at the house of the Dove in Marshfield.

Harry Albert King was born April 19, 1928, in Neillsville, the son of Elgar and Hilda (Dollase) King. He attended Neillsville schools and worked for Kurt Marg. He was united in marriage to Esther C. Pretsch Aug. 8, 1946, in Neillsville. They both worked at the Quinnell Fur Farm until they bought a dairy farm in 1952, where together they farmed and raised their family. While farming, Harry owned a milk route, and, also raised mink. Harry and Esther sold the family farm in 1976 and built a new home a mile away. Though they sold the farm, Harry never stopped working. He owned a milk route, hauled corn for Art Steimke, hauled cattle for Ervin Heck, worked at Cenex for 27 years hauling fuel oil and setting LP tanks, and he worked at Custom Heating and Cooling for a couple of years setting LP tanks. He worked until he was 80 years old and of all the jobs he worked, farming was always closest to his heart.

Harry was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking trips in the RV with his wife. A quilt was even made from the T-shirts they gathered on their trips over the years. What he most enjoyed, however, was just spending time with his family.

Harry is survived by five children, Jerry (Lynn) King of Neillsville, Jeanette King of Marshfield, Mary (Eugene) Dux of Neillsville, Jean (Ken) Nicks of Boaz, and Lori (Jim) Gentry of Winneconne; eight grandchildren: Travis (Karen) King, Brendt King, EuGene (Karyn) Krause, DuWayne (Liisa) Krause, Michael (Rachel) Dux, Matthew (Brandi) Dux, and Kate, and Claire Gentry; five step-grandchildren: Tanya (Dan) Overlien, Jennifer (Cory) Fisher, Ken (Barb) Nicks Jr., Matthew (Janice) Nicks and Anthony Nicks; 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Three brothers further survive him: Maynard “Butch” (Shirley) King of Neillsville, Donald “Duke” (Marilyn) King of Neillsville and William King of Berlin, WI; and one sister, Carol (Gordon) Zickert of Neillsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Esther, two brothers: Eugene and Melvin, and a sister, Janice Armstrong.

Funeral services for Harry will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Chad Anderson will officiate. Providing music will be Jodi Rueth, organist, and John Gaier, soloist. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday morning at the church. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
