Mertens, Mary Jeanette (31 AUG 1968)
Mary Jeanette Mertens, daughter of Clarence Mertens of Rt. 1, Withee (Clark Co.,
Wis.), became the bride of Gerald Tomczak, son of Michael and Helen Tomczak of
Thorp (Clark Co.), on Saturday morning, August 31st, 1968, at an 11 o'clock
nuptial mass. Officiating at the ceremony was Rev. H.L. Crubel.
For her wedding the bride chose a floor length wedding gown of Chantilly lace,
designed with a bouffant skirt with tiers of flowing lace that extended into a
cathedral length train. A petal headpiece held the nylon illusion bouffant veil,
and she carried a cascade of red and white carnations with stephanotis, red
rose, and ivy.
Attending the bride as maid of honor was Miss Jeanne Tomczak of Grafton, with
Mrs. Michael Tomczak of withee as bridesmaid. They wore identical gowns of white
lace over aqua taffeta fashioned with floor length skirts and a fitted bodice on
a natural waistline. The skirt was of aqua sheer over taffeta. The short
bouffant veil was secured to a forward headpiece of tulle petals and organza
roses centered with a dainty seed pearl crown. Their flowers were a cascade of
aqua, blue and white carnations.
Serving as flower girl was Sheila Nedza, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Nedza
of Stetsonville. She wore a gown in white, identical to the attendants, and
carried a small bouquet like the bride's.
The groom was attired in a white tuxedo with red boutonniere.
Serving as ring bearers was Mark Mertens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Mertens of
Withee. He was attired identical to the groom.
Serving as best man was Edward L. Mertens, with groomsman being Michael Tomczak.
They were attired in white tuxedo with aqua blue boutonnieres.
The bride is a 1968 graduate of Owen-Withee High School, while the groom is a
graduate of the Thorp High School, and is presently employed by Reliance
Construction Company.
Following the wedding a dinner was served at the Holy Rosary Hall, with a
reception from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Hedwig's Hall at Thorp, with dancing following
from 8 o'clock to midnight.
The newlyweds will make their home in rural Withee.
