Seidel, Margaret Mary (Schneider) (11 JUL 1922 - 28 DEC 2016)
Margaret Mary Seidel, 94, of Rib Lake, passed away Wednesday December 28, 2016
at The Golden Living Center in Rib Lake.
Margaret was born July 11, 1922 to Michael and Rosa Schneider in the family home
in which she then grew up in. She was the 6th of 14 children born to them.
She attended Mud Lake School in Rib Lake and spent most of her 94 years in the
Rib Lake area. It was here that she married the love of her life, Leonard (Jack)
Seidel in 1942. Together they raised their three sons just outside of the
village limits.
Margaret was a working mother, employed 30 years with Gem Products in Rib Lake.
In 1985 at her husband’s request, she joined him in retirement, which they
enjoyed together until his death in 1990. She was a homemaker, mother and wife
that relied on the skills she learned as a child in her mother’s kitchen. The
kitchen was her domain where she turned out countless pies, jars of jam and
jelly, canned venison and canned vegetables. Margaret enjoyed listening to polka
music while she worked in the kitchen and her radio scanner.
Margaret enjoyed dancing, gardening, cooking, canning, bowling, travelling and
visiting with her friends, family and neighbors. As a lifelong member of the
Good Shepard Catholic Church she participated as a member of the Christian
Mothers, helping with church dinners and donating food as needed. She also
served as a den mother when her sons were in the Rib Lake Cub Scouts.
After her husband’s death she enjoyed the companionship of her dear friend, Lyle
Schmedegard, for 20 years. They filled each other’s lives with dancing, laughter
and friendship until his passing in 2013. In 2012 she moved into the Village of
Rib Lake after living 60 years in her home, with the last 24 being alone. Her
family cherishes the memories of the simple and wholesome lifestyle she modeled,
the values she taught of the benefits of hard work and of not being wasteful and
the ability to take life as it comes, no matter what.
She is survived her Sons: Richard (Terri) Seidel of Fall Creek, Dale (Patty)
Seidel of Brooklyn, 7 Grandchildren: Brian Seidel, Greg Seidel, Shari (Chad)
Strasburg, Kim (Steve) Goetz, Michael Seidel, Suzette (Scott) Reynolds and Tracy
(Michael) Procajlo; 8 Great Grandchildren: Reid (Shari) Strasburg, Laura and
Nathan Seidel (Brian), Jessica and Randy (Suzette) Reynolds, and Alexander,
Ethan and Sydney (Tracey) Procajlo; and 3 Great Great Granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Seidel, and sons Francis Seidel
and infant Dennis Seidel; Brothers: Walter, Norbert and Michael; Sisters:
Bernice, Bertha, Rosemary, Anne, Frieda, Rita and Emma.
Three of the family of fourteen survive: 2 Sisters: Marie (Paul) Froebe of Ft.
Collins, CO, Agnes (Ross) Petersen of Phillips, and brother Gerald (Adrian)
Schneider of Rib Lake, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM, Friday December 30, 2016 at Good Shepherd
Catholic Church in Rib Lake. Father Otto Bucher will officiate. Burial will
follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday at Good Shepherd Church from 10 AM until the
time of Mass at 11 AM.
Memorial Donations in honor of Margaret may be given to the family; proceeds
will be designated to the Rib Lake Fire and EMS Department.
