Foster, Navy Ensign Gary H. (Service Notes - 1986)

Navy Ensign Gary H. Foster, son of Dr. and Mrs. John W. Foster, of 15 Clay Street, Neillsville, was commissioned in his present rank upon completion of Aviation Officer Candidate School.

During the 13-week course at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida, Foster was prepared for future duties and responsibilities as a commissioned officer and to prepare him to enter primary flight training.

During the course, Foster received general military, academic, physical fitness and leadership training which included navigation, military justice, mathematics and physics. He also received navigation, military justice, pre-flight training which centered around aerodynamics, sea and land survival, aviation physiology, and basic aircraft engineering.

A 1976 graduate of Neillsville High School, and a 1981 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, with a Bachelor of Science degree, he joined the Navy in September 1983.

Oldham, Dorothy ( 65th - 1986)

A surprise party was held April 13, for Mrs. Ray (Dorothy) Oldham who was 65 years old that day. Those present included Mr. and Mrs. Earl Payne and Timmy Struensee, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Oldham, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Langreck and family, Dennis Oldham and Douglas, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Hagen and son, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Oldham and daughter, Allen and Lisa Langreck, Mark Struensee and friend Jake and Luke Zschernitz. A phone call was received from daughter, Linda Polzin, who lives out of town and could not be present. All came with well-filled baskets for a wonderful birthday dinner. Mrs. Oldham said it was a wonderful surprise to have the folks come to help her celebrate.

Singstock, Lena (100th – 8 April 1986)

Centennial Birthday—Mrs. Lena Singstock of the Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville was 100 years old on Tuesday, April 8. Two of her five children are living, and joined her for a small family celebration in her honor at the home on Sunday, April 6. She was born in Waukesha County, the daughter of Fred and Ann Hess. She and Herman Singstock were married May 10, 1905, at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. They lived on a farm in the Colby area until Mr. Singstock’s death in 1969. They were members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Green Grove. Mrs. Singstock has lived at the home in Neillsville since 1970, enjoys the care she gets and enjoys visits from the local clergy, family and friends.
