Ashley Neisius, sophomore at the Thorp Public School was recently awarded a $1,000 grant from Caterpillar to use for her SAE entrepreneurship program.

The SAE is a supervised agricultural experience that is part of the agricultural education program at the Thorp School District. There are three parts to the program: the classroom instruction, The FFA, and the supervised agricultural experience (SAE)

Ashley is using her SAE to help move towards her ultimate goals in the future, which include owning her own farm, and breeding registered cattle for showing at cattle shows. Hopefully one day, she would like to make it to the World Dairy Expo.

Her current plan is to buy registered grade semen to breed with her father's cattle. In the future she would like to buy embryos and transfer them into cattle she is planning to breed. Her hope is to have five registered cattle in her name by 2016.

With the hectic state of employment in the nation right now, it is great to have a program that helps students to not only narrow down the scope of their future plans, but to also implement the steps necessary to achieve their ultimate goals. Ashley has a clear path and a fantastic final goal; this grant from Caterpillar, melded with the SAE program, have her well on her way to success.
