Meyer, Herman W. (19 MAR 1906 - 25 DEC 1997)
Herman W. Meyer, 91, Medford, died Thursday, December 25, 1997, at Memorial
Hospital Long Term Care in Medford where he has resided for two and one half
years.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 29, at Hemer Funeral Home in
Medford, with Rev. Warren Behling officiating. Burial was held in the
Perkinstown Community Cemetery in Perkinstown.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Andrew and David Johnson, James Knippel, nephews
Harvey and Don Meyer and Clem Johnson.
Herman W. Meyer was born March 19, 1906 in Black River Falls to Frederick W. and
Bertha (Wulf) Meyer. He attended schools in Warrens. His marriage to Hazel I.
Westrich took place on July 6, 1933.
In his early years, he would harvest crops in the Dakotas and then would return
to Wisconsin in the winter and do woods work. In the 1920’s and 1930’s, he
worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was later employed in road
construction with Mathey Construction and as a mechanic for Gelhaus & Brost and
also Mueller Bros. in Medford. He owned and operated school buses with Jim
Werner for a time. He later worked for Sturdy Craft and Hurd Millwork, retiring
in 1971.
He was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Medford.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel of Medford; two daughters, Geneve (Leon)
Knippel of Medford and Anita (David) Johnson of Madison; two sons Marvin (Karen)
and Alvin Meyer, both of Tampa, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters; and one
infant daughter, Joyce in 1938.
