Junior Kiwanian Dakota Watton (January - 2017)
In its 50- plus years of existence as a regular feature of the Neillsville
Kiwanis Club, the Junior Kiwanian program has always focused on the achievements
of stand-out senior students as they prepare to transition into the next stage
of their lives.
The club welcomed Dakota Watton as its Junior Kiwanian for January. She is the
daughter of Rita and Donnie Crothers, and will be participating in the Monday
meetings during the month. She was introduced to club members by secretary
Herman Seebandt at the Jan. 2 meeting.
A wide range of diverse interests and activities, combined with strong academic
achievement, characterizes this motivated student. She is a member of the
national Honor Society, has participated in the district and state forensics
competition and is a four-year solo and ensemble member. Watton is active in the
school choir, where she was named all-conference, and in show, mixed, and
concert choirs. In addition, she is a member of the school theater.
Athletics has also been a part of Watton’s high school experience. She has
participated in volleyball and is a four-year member of the track squad.
FFA comprises a major part of her extra-curricular activities. She is currently
serving as chapter president, and has previously been its treasurer, and state
committee chairperson. She has also earned state and national honors in FFA
chorus.
Other community involvement includes 4-H membership, being named Miss
Neillsville second attendant, Red Cross blood donor, and St. John’s Church
volunteer work. Additionally, Watton has been employed at Citizen’s State Bank
and Subway.
As expected from this well-motivated individual, she has a plan in mind for her
future. Watton intends to earn a two-year accounting degree from Chippewa Valley
Technical College, then enroll at UW-River Falls.
The community takes pride in students like Dakota Watton, who demonstrate strong
academic achievement, show good leadership qualities, and understand the
importance of community involvement. The Neillsville Kiwanis Club is proud to
have her as its Junior Kiwanian for the month, and wishes her success in her
future endeavors.
