Kamenick, Marie T. (Mohr) (9 MAY 1923 - 9 DEC 2016)
Marie T. Kamenick, 93, Marathon, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Aspirus Hospice
House.
She was born May 9, 1923, in Marathon, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary
(Beran) Mohr. On June 1, 1946, she married Walter Kamenick at St. Mary Catholic
Church, Marathon. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Before her marriage to Walter, Marie had been employed for five years in Chicago
at a defense plant. After marriage, the Kamenick’s farmed in the town of
Marathon until the time of their retirement. Marie was an avid quilter, with
many of her quilts donated to various charities. She also enjoyed bowling,
sewing and gardening. Knitting was another favorite pastime for Marie and the
Aspirus Newborn program received many knitted hats from her. She was a member
and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, as well as a member of the
Parish Council of Catholic Women and Circle of Joy at St. Mary Parish and also
was a member of the Secular Order of Franciscans.
Survivors include seven children, Lynn Witberler, Marathon, Carole (Craig)
Hildebrand, Mississippi, Susan Ster, Pewaukee, Janet (Michael) Klosinski,
Wausau, Dan Kamenick, Marathon, Jeff (Eliana) Kamenick, Merrill, and John (Sue)
Kamenick, Mosinee; siblings, Eleanor Freidman, Palatine, Ill., Doris Vesley,
Weston, Alfred (LuAnne) Mohr, Marathon, and Marvin (Barb) Mohr, Marathon; 16
grandchildren, Brian (Lori) Witberler, Andy (Carrie) Witberler, Michael (Ashley
Rice) Witberler, Angela (Brandon) Schroder, Shalla (Brian) White, David
(Kathryn) Ster, Kate (Lance) Leonhard, Joseph (Krista) Klosinski, Karen
Klosinski, Katarina Kamenick, Elizabeth Kamenick, Nathan Kamenick, Dylan
Kamenick, Melaney Kamenick, Antonia (Terry) Sorenson and Darrell (Trista)
Martin; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers,
Henry, Joseph, Jacob and Edward Mohr; three sisters, Helen Huebsch, Margaret
Belongie and Lucille Kreiske; and two grandsons, Christopher Witberler and Steve
Hildebrand.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at St.
Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier presided. Burial was
in the parish cemetery. Friends called Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of
service, all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marathon.
