Mroz, Alice E. (8 MAY 1930 – 20 JAN 2017)
Alice E. Mroz, age 86, of Thorp (Clark Co.), Wisconsin, passed away at Dove
Healthcare – Wissota Health in Chippewa Falls, WI on Friday, January 20, 2017.
Alice Estelle Strzok was born on May 8, 1930, in the town of Withee (Clark Co.),
the daughter of Michael C. and Anna F. (Wnek) Strzok. She was raised on the
family farm and received her elementary education at Pozen School, and graduated
from Thorp High School in 1949. She worked at Thorp Finance for ten years after
graduation. Alice was united in marriage to Clarence R. Church in Thorp. They
took over the operation of the Mroz farm in the town of Withee, northeast of
Thorp. Alice was a full time mother, homemaker and farm wife after the birth of
their daughter, working alongside her husband Clarence on the farm and assisting
with his logging business. She continued to reside on the farm with Clarence
until a few days prior to her passing.
Alice was a member of St. Bernard – St. Hedwig Catholic Church and the PCCW. She
had many interests, including bowling, golfing, poka dancing, cooking, canning,
watching sports, and spending time with family and friends. She loved tending to
her flower beds and gardens and watching things grow. Many neighbors and friends
were recipients of her garden produce or farm fresh eggs through the years.
Alice's generosity, kindness and fun loving nature will be remembered by all who
knew her.
She will be dearly remembers by her husband of 61 years, Clarence; her daughter
and son-in-law, Cheryl and Terry Halida of Chippewa Falls; brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law, Rose Zuber of Colby, Agnes Bogacz of Chicago, Theresa (Ralph)
Javore of Menomonee Falls, Alice (Edwin) Bishop of Franklin, Louis Wehlacz of
Glendora, California, and Delores Strzok of Thorp; several nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Chester and E. Harvey
Strzok; and two sisters, Lorraine Wehlacz and Margaret Mroz, as well as five
brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at St.
Bernard – St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. James Kowalski and Rev.
Josby Mathew co-celebrated, and burial followed in Old St. Hedwig's Catholic
Cemetery, with her nephews serving as pallbearers. Lunch was served afterwards
in the church basement. Visitation was held at the church on Wednesday, from 11
a.m. until time of service.
