Hantke, Douglas Donald “Bud” (1 April 1932 – 19 January 2017) With Flag

Douglas Donald “Bud” Hantke passed away Jan. 19, 2017, in Sun City, AZ. He was born April 1, 1932, to Hazel Schultz and Tony Hantke in Neillsville. He graduated from the Neillsville High school in 1950 and served in the elite cryptographic intelligence branch of the United States Air Force, stationed in Germany from 1951 through 1955. He married Opal Woodford Feb. 4, 1956, in Maquoketa, IA.

In 1958, he graduated from Spencerian College in Milwaukee with an accounting degree. He began with the Internal Revenue Service shortly thereafter and eventually rose to the chief of the examination division in Minnesota where he retired in 1988. Bud and Opal moved to Sun City, AZ, in 1994. He was voted onto the board of directors for Sun City and served for several years. He was involved greatly with the Youngtown United Methodist Church as the treasurer. Bud was an avid bowler and threw five 300 games and just for fun, had a hole-in-one golfing in Sun City. He was an accomplished piano player and played the piano weekly at the Wooddale Nursing Home in Sun City where his mother resided.

Bud is survived by his wife Opal, their children Tony, Kristina and Susan and their spouses Cindi, Chris, and Jeff; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for any donations to be made to a cancer foundation of their choice.
