Harrington, Richard Arlyen (15 March 1933 – 26 January 2017) With Flag

Richard Harrington, 84, of Neillsville died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at the Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center in Owen.

Richard Arlyen Harrington was born March 15, 1933, in the Town of Butler, the son of Ellsworth and Lucy (Butler) Harrington. He graduated from Neillsville High School in 1952, and then joined the United States Army in 1953. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and was united in marriage to Janet C. Seelow Oct. 7, 1955, in Neillsville. They moved to Milwaukee, and Dick worked for the Ladish Company, where he made airplane parts. He then went to work for the Pelton Casteel Company as a foreman in the Core Department for 20 years. When he left the foundry, he went to work in maintenance at the Mount Carmel Nursing Home in Milwaukee. In 1995, he and Janet retired to Neillsville, where Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, plowing snow, and volunteering at the American Legion.

Dick was a member of the United Church of Christ in Neillsville, a member of the Granton Antique Tractor Club, and a member of the American Legion. He served on the committee for the building of the new Legion, was commander for three years, and was a member of the Legion’s color guard.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, a son Mark (Kathleen) Harrington of Cudahy; a daughter-in-law, Mary Harrington of Franklin; six grandchildren, Elliott, Adam, Ashley, Erika, Andrew, and Benjamin Harrington; two great-granddaughters; a great-grandson; and one sister, Karen (Bill) Seelow of Tucson, AZ.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steve; a sister, Jean Johnson; a brother-in-law, Morris Johnson; and his parents.

Funeral services for Dick were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville. Pastor Jacoba Koppert officiated. Music was provided by Eileen Zank, organist. Interment was in the North Pine Valley Cemetery in Neillsville with military honors performed by the Neillsville Veteran’s Council. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Casketbearers were: Kent Kirn, Mark Dunco, Elliot Harrington, Andy Harrington, Adam Harrington, and Ben Harrington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Neillsville American Legion Post #73 Building Fund.
