Cornie W. Smith Dies Monday; Rites Set Today

Cornie W. Smith, 59, Phoenix, Ariz., a former Perkinstown area resident, died Monday at the Veterans hospital at Phoenix.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church, Gilman, with Rev. Frederick Brost officiating. Burial will take place in the Perkinstown cemetery. The body lay in state at the Gilman funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born December 13, 1913, at Knapp and spent his childhood in the Perkinstown area. He served with the army during World War II. His marriage to Pauline Haizel took place November 21, 1942, at Lublin.

After their marriage the couple moved to Illinois where he lived for 30 years. Mr. Smith had resided at Phoenix since October 11, 1972.

He is survived by his wife; a son Clement, Franklin Park, Ill.; two daughters, Carol Ann Mrs. Keith Davey, Franklin Park, and Paulette, Mrs. George Olson, North Lake, Ill., and four grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother, Milford, Owen, and two sisters, Norma, Mrs. John Komanec, and Belva, Mrs. Lindy Hierlmeier, both of Gilman.

One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
